HUMAN RESOURCE AND
WORKPLACE SAFETY
HUMAN RESOURCE
PUTTING OUR PEOPLE FIRST
At COSCO, our employees are the critical foundation
for the Company. We consider our human capital as
indispensable towards sustainability and progress.
This is why we have in place a comprehensive human
resource (HR) strategy. We seek to achieve organisation
growth by enriching, enabling and empowering our staff
to reach their full potential.
Our approach in recruitment, training, incentives,
compensation and benefits ensure that talented staff
are given the opportunities for upgrading.
RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING
We consider human capital an essential component in
our enterprise. We recruit new talents with a competitive
remuneration and reward scheme. Our proactive
recruitment and training programme involves finding
top graduates from China’s renowned universities.
They then undergo management trainee courses in
preparation for their future management roles. In line
with this, we constantly monitor their progress and
support their professional and personal goals within the
company.
We place great emphasis on education to increase
our workforce’s capabilities, which is why we provide
employees with specialised training courses relating to
international best practices and safety measures, as
well as technical, engineering and management skills.
Another part of our HR programme is the annual
assessment of technical staff to ensure that their skills
meet the necessary standards. COSCO also organises
training courses for senior technical management staff
to strengthen their knowledge and expertise.
REWARD AND RETENTION
The efforts and achievements of our employees
are reflective of their sense of belonging within the
company. To foster staff loyalty and bring out their
full potential, COSCO applies a performance and
achievement appraisal system, which aims to link work
goals with personal career development aspirations
and remuneration.
We also seek to inculcate a culture of mutual respect
and flexibility with our employees through open
communication channels, fair management, sharing of
responsibilities and decision-making.
OUTLOOK
For 2016, COSCO will continuously pursue effective
management of our workforce of contract and in-
house staff, providing them priorities and benefits. We
will also enhance our appraisal and career development
system, as well as training programmes for middle level
management to achieve optimal performance.
WORKPLACE SAFETY
WORKPLACE SAFETY AWARENESS
At COSCO, we believe in the importance of an
uncompromising safety ethos within the workplace.
The core of COSCO’s established workplace safety
philosophy will always be our employees’ welfare and
well-being. It has always been our commitment to apply
an actionable, practical and effective approach towards
safety conduct.
Our shipyard staff are provided with the necessary
training courses to identify potential workplace dangers
and the precautionary measures to take. These
programmes ensure that our staff are equipped with
vital skills and fundamental levels of proficiency.
COSCO has placed a high emphasis on safety
awareness for new intakes at all levels. New staff
are required to attend all-round training courses and
examinations that stress proficiency of the technical
aspects of workplace safety and its compliance.
